Rules
Eight rules.
Read them.
- Every sample and loop must be created by you, specifically for this challenge. No previously released or distributed material.
- Every sample and loop must involve Komplete Start somewhere in the process. Either the sound originates from a Komplete Start instrument, or you process a self-recorded audio file with a Komplete Start effect.
- Sound sources are limited to Komplete Start instruments or your own original recordings. No other synths, samplers, or third party plugins as sound sources. No third party Kontakt libraries.
- If you use your own recordings as the source, you must process them with at least one Komplete Start effect.
- You can use other third party effect plugins for processing, but only if their license allows the resulting sounds to be distributed as part of a free community sample pack. Check the EULA. Some plugins restrict this.
- One submission per person. That submission can contain as many samples and loops as you want.
- If you collaborate, only one person takes credit for each sound. Don't submit the same sounds twice under different names. Submit separately.
- No AI. Not as a sound generator, not in processing.
Submission Guidelines
How to put
your pack together.
File format
WAV only. 44.1 kHz 16-bit or 48 kHz 24-bit. Nothing higher than 48 kHz 24-bit.
Naming
Include BPM and key for tonal content.
dark_stab_128bpm_Fmin.wav pluck_loop_95bpm_Gmaj.wav
Atonal or unpitched content can just be descriptive.
snare_hit.wav vinyl_noise.wav
Sounds picked for the final pack may be renamed for consistency across the bundle.
Folder structure
Organize files into clearly named subfolders by type. Some examples:
- Loops — full loops, melodic or rhythmic
- One Shots — individual hits and stabs
- Kicks, Snares, Hi-Hats, Percussion — drum sounds
- Bass, Guitars, Keys, Synths, Pads — melodic content
- FX, Textures, Ambience — sound design
Description file
Include a .txt or .md file in your folder with:
- All plugins used, including any third party effects. This helps us verify license compatibility.
- The name you want to be credited as in the final pack
- Any social media links you want included
If you're not sure whether a plugin's license allows its output in a free community sample pack, check the EULA or leave the plugin out. Sounds processed with a restrictive plugin can't be included.
Uploading
Upload to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or similar. No zips. Set sharing so anyone with the link can view and download. Paste the link into the form.
What makes a good submission
Quality over quantity, but a handful of files isn't enough to make a meaningful contribution. Aim for variety — different sound types, moods, textures. Everything should be usable.
A well curated folder of 20 great sounds beats a messy folder of 100 mediocre ones. Remove half-finished, placeholder, and test sounds before submitting.
Niche genres are fine. Mainstream appeal is not required. Just make sure sounds are usable, well named, and show some craft and creativity.
How submissions are judged
No single metric. Submissions are evaluated across:
- Craft and quality of the individual sounds
- Creativity and originality
- How well the NI tools have been used
- Variety and volume of the contribution
- Organization and presentation
Winners are picked by the /r/edmproduction mod team.
Final pack and licensing
Some or all submitted sounds may be included in the final pack at the moderators' discretion. Included sounds may be renamed for consistency across the pack. All included sounds are licensed under the /r/edmproduction community license.
The final pack will be made publicly available for anyone to download and use.
TL;DR: you can use the samples in your own creative work. You cannot resell or redistribute them as a sample pack or sound library.

r/edmproduction community license · version 1.0 · 2026-05-10
This Sample Usage License ("Agreement") covers your use of the Samples, as defined below. By downloading or using the Samples, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.
In this Agreement, "Samples" means audio loops, one shots, and other audio content included in this sample pack.
You are given a non-exclusive, world-wide, royalty-free, perpetual, non-transferable and non-sublicensable license to use and modify the Samples, but only as part of your own musical compositions or other creative works including music, film, TV, games, and other media.
You cannot use, distribute, sell, lend, rent, broadcast, share, assign, transfer, or sub-license the Samples (commercially or otherwise) in isolation, stand-alone, or as individual loops or sound sets, or to create or repackage the Samples in whole or in part into a new sample pack, sound library, or similar product.
You may use the Samples with AI-assisted tools for your own personal use, such as sample organization or cataloguing software. You may not use the Samples to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop any AI model, machine learning system, or similar technology that is made publicly available or used commercially.
You acknowledge that other users may use the Samples in their own creative works and you may not prevent other users from doing so.
The Samples are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. The original contributors retain ownership of their recordings but grant the above rights to all users of this pack.
